Click to enlarge6" Violet Weave Dream Catcher

This is a unique dream catcher. The ring is natural leather, but the sinew was dyed violet. Attached to one side of the circle is a crystal and the other side has a carved lizard fetish. Also hanging from the circle are three feathers. Each feather has three beads, violet and black. The total length of the dream catcher is about 16 inches. The dream catcher is a tradition from the Plains Indians. You hang them by the window or at the head of your bed. The bad dreams get caught in the web. The good dreams work their way through the hole in the center, rest on the feather like a dew drop, and evaporate to the Great Spirit in the morning sun. The prayer beads on the Dream Catcher trap all bad dreams that are left on the web. The prayer beads then burn up the bad dreams. This dream catcher was made by Navajo artist, Jenette Begay.
