This beautiful and unique carving is a wonderful piece of art. It is carved from a single piece of cottonwood root. It is a horse, complete with hoofs, wrapped in a painted Navajo blanket, and painted turquoise necklace. This horse has his rear hoofs in his carved and painted traditional moccasins. The entire piece is hand carved and painted. This carving was done by Navajo artist Marvin Jim. This horse is part of Navajo folkart and part of the the Navajo folk story of "The Shoe Game." "The Night Animals and Birds with Owl as their leader, played a game with their moccasins against the Day Animals and Birds led by Coyote." This horse is part of that folk story.
