This is a stacked fetish necklace that was carved by Zuni artists. The fetishes are carved in marble, black onxy, turquoise, quartz,red coral, granit, jade, and mother of pearl. The large fetish at the bottom is a standing bear in black onyx. Stacked up on either side of the standing bear are tradintion bears and wolves. The four bears closest to the standing bear are larger and stand out from the rest of the wolves. Bears and wolves represent two of the strongest animal totems in Native American culture. This necklace is a beautiful example of the delicate artistry of the Zuni fetish carvers. This necklace is about 34 inches in length. |
