Navajo Artist Magdalene Begay designed and made this wonderful little wedding vase. Maggie has been making pottery for many years. She is a member of the Towering House Clan. This vase is painted etched pottery. The score lines, made with fine carving tools, become part of the design and the resulting art piece is called Sgraffitto. Etched art is done on either red terracotta clay or white gypsum clay. Afer firing, the resulting design will show the red or white background. This wedding vase shows the joining of the two vase necks by the arch. The joining of two to one. This vase stands about 2.5 inches tall, is 2 inches at the widest point, the base is 1.5 inches and the top is 2.5 inches across. This vase is painted teal, white, tan and blue. |
